I have started working on a model of the school house I attended while growing up. Its located in Johnson Vermont.

Well I have made a lot of progress in the building of the school house I attended while growing up. First a picture of what it looked like while attending
This however is much different than when the school was first built. Here is a picture of the school then:
This is the picture I have decided to use. As you can see the school was doubled in size. The picture of when it was first built shows about a six window side and a slopped roof in the back. From what I can find out when the school house was doubled the back slopped roof was squared off and the side was expanded and there were ten windows on each side. As the school went from a six grade school to a twelve grade school it would make sense to expand so that six classrooms on the first floor and six classrooms on the second floor. I know that is the way it was when I attended. The other thing that can be seen is the original building went from a shingle roof to a metal roof, however the addition was a shingle roof. I considered making it as pictured but decided I would just make the roof all shingled. Its not a exact replica but it can’t be as I don’t have enough information to make it exact.
So here is what I have so far in my build.
Note the color. Although the pictures of the current school house shows it is red the original pictures do not reflect that. It appears to me that the color was a light one with a darker trim. Some of the buildings around that time were cream colored with brown trim so that’s what I went with.
I still need to finish off a couple classrooms in the front and add some lights and also add the foundation. My styrene I ordered for the base is not going to work so I need to get something else. There are also basement windows that need to be added.
More to come.

I was making the building according to the latest one I had, however decided I would model the one from 1911, which was a light color instead of red as it is now. I also used brown trim for the building. Apparently the first building was built around 1900 and was only half the size of this one.
Following are some pictures of the work on the school house.

Here you can see how I added some detail to the classrooms.
Here is how I wired the lights to the interior of the classrooms.
The wiring from the lights go to the back steps where I have a battery compartment with an on/off switch for power
I also added a arrow weather vane as shown in the Mills #6 picture I went by.
So most all of the school is complete. I added a little more trim around the building and the base. The last things to do are to add some grass , glue the roof down and touch up any paint and etc. that needs to be done.

Well the school house is finished so it’s time to start another project. My sister Barbara sent me a picture of the Nye block that was located in Johnson, Vermont years ago. It was a one of a kind building in the state of Vermont. I’ve decided to see if I can find the parts and build it. As it has lots of unique detail parts this is going to be a real challenge.
